The Views of Forbidden Plateau

Forbidden Plateau is a unique area that's steeped in tradition. Comox was the home for the Coast Salish people. The name Comox was derived from the Indian word “Koumuckthay”, meaning “Land of Plenty”. In the early 1790s, Spanish explorers sailed in the harbor, but it was British surveyors who first saw agricultural opportunities in the vast flatlands. Comox continued as a farming community until the early 1940s, when the federal government decided it was the perfect place for an air force base.
